Tekin has over 20 years of industry experience across some of New Zealand's most recent technical fire protection projects.

Tekin Industries believe in fostering relationships with stakeholders to help achieve a common goal of success. From architects, builders, & councils, to engineers, building owners and contractors…. we simply aim to design and provide solutions where everybody wins.

Having designed and implemented solutions for some of NZ’s more recent complex and technical fire protection projects, Aaron has a proven track record when it comes to delivering innovative solutions.

We design and provide solutions to the latest NZ and International fire protection standards, using the latest 3D BIM (Building Information Modelling) architecture and fire protection software. We also distribute products that are not only innovative and of the highest quality, but also provide savings through on-going maintenance cycles.

Room Integrity Testing

Tekin Industries are your Room Integrity Testing specialists covering the whole of NZ.

The primary objective of a Room Integrity Test (commonly called a Door Fan Test) is to determine the total leakage of the protected room/enclosure. The results are used to evaluate whether the suppression agent will adequately protect the equipment within the enclosure. This test can be used to optimise room and suppression system design.

The Room Integrity Testing uses specialised software and equipment to pressurise and depressurise the protected enclosure. This test is significantly more cost effective and environmentally friendly compared to a full system discharge.

Hold Time

The largest failures of gaseous fire suppression systems are a result of loss of suppression agent through openings (leaks) in the protected enclosure.

Gaseous fire suppression systems rely on their ability to correctly extinguish a fire in the protected enclosure by achieving a minimum concentration and retaining this level for a minimum period (hold time).

Many gaseous fire suppression systems fail because they lose the minimum concentration level through leakage in the enclosure before the minimum hold time is achieved. Room Integrity Testing helps to identify such leakage.

Peak Pressure

In the event of a system discharge, significant pressure fluctuations are associated with the initial rapid release of the suppression agent into the enclosure. These pressures (Peak Pressures) can pose a structural risk to the room and equipment.

It is very important that the initial discharge pressure (peak pressure) is reduced to be lower than the weakest structure design load or else walls, ceilings, doors and equipment could be displaced (left image).

This is achieved by pressure relief venting. Room Integrity Testing will calculate and determine the extent of these pressure fluctuations and whether the installed vents are sized correctly to reduce the peak pressure enough to be that lower than the weakest part of the structure.

Annual Testing

Building joints and cable penetrations move over time introducing leak points that may not be noticed during normal building inspections. Building service work or maintenance activities may also create places where gases can leak.

At present there are no New Zealand Standards for gaseous fire suppression systems; therefore a range of international Standards are utilised within the market. In 2016, the Fire Protection Association of New Zealand developed a Code of Practice for gaseous fire suppression systems to clarify that whichever Standard, or family of Standards, is selected for the gaseous fire suppression system then that Standard, or family of Standards, should be used for the system throughout.

The code of practise recommends that trained and competent persons carry out Room Integrity Testing annually and, where the installation standard is unknown, follow manufacturer’s requirements and/or AS1851 testing requirements.

Room Integrity Testing in NZ by Tekin

Australian standard AS1851:2012 “Routine service of fire protection systems and equipment” requires an Enclosure Integrity Test to be completed each year. As gaseous suppression systems are a specified system in the New Zealand building Code, Room Integrity Testing needs to be completed each year before a 12A compliance certificate can be issued.

Tekin Industries staff are Retrotec Level 3 certified (highest level of certification) and would be more than happy to provide a competitive quotation and discuss your Room Integrity Testing requirements with you.

Fire Protection Consulting

Tekin Industries are your Fire Protection Consulting specialists.

We have over 20 years of fire protection industry experience across some of NZ’s most recent technical projects.  As a result, Aaron has an industry reputation of having walked the talk.

Why Fire Protection Consulting?

One of the key motivators of establishing Tekin Industries was to continue to be problem solvers. We wanted to better the whole industry through assisting building owners, engineers and contractors with the knowledge that we have. Tekin Industries understands and has the hands on experience in installing, supervising, project managing, managing and designing fire protection and detection systems throughout New Zealand. This has enabled a wealth of knowledge and experience that allows us to assist in providing consulting advice that is of the highest level. This has not only been learnt through behind the desk but also out in the field.

Consulting Services

Our consultancy is based on expectations and results that are solutions based. Establishing what your requirements are and assisting you to achieve your requirements can vary between the type of consultancy that you require. Our certified experience allows us to provide consultancy advice across many areas. Some of these include feasibility studies, project concepts, budget pricing, tender document review, tender submission and drawing reviews. These assist in your decision making in a projects environment. yet that is not the only area where we give advice.

Existing Systems

We also give advice and prepare documentation for existing systems. This is to verify the compliance of systems where documentation may not be available.

We also have a vast knowledge of the building warrant of fitness process, procedures and requirements. Because of this, we can provide consultancy that gives clarity of what your fire protection systems capability actually is. We also outline the required routine testing and  what is involved throughout the testing frequencies. This allows for budget planning and we can give advice in anticipated costings for significant maintenance items that will need to be completed for your specified systems to continue to be compliant.

Fire Protection Consulting by Tekin NZ

As Tekin Industries is Retrotec trained and certified we can complete room integrity testing of your gaseous suppression protected areas and also give advice on maintenance of the gaseous suppression system and its components.

Specialists in high hazard, high risk and special hazards means we are always ensuring we are up to date with the latest standard releases, technical bulletins, FM & UL Data sheet updates as well as having close relationships with suppliers and manufacturers to provide alternative options and best fit for use solutions.

Tekin Industries are also proficient in NZ, UK, NFPA and UL standards, including FM datasheets.
