Located in the new Christchurch health precinct, the redevelopment of the University of Otago Christchurch campus is the largest and most ambitious in the University’s history. Housing a number of specialist functions and student learning spaces the building will transform the learning experience for students and staff in Christchurch.
The new building will have four floors of laboratories, clinical research and teaching facilities, an imaging suite, a base for postgraduate nursing studies, and will house the departments of psychological medicine and pathology and biomedical science.
The design has been developed with a strong underlying cultural narrative developed with Ngāi Tahu, with key themes of social wellness and the notion of balance/harmony within our environment. The building is being designed to achieve NZGBC 5 Star and is aligned with the University’s zero carbon strategy.
Our Solutions
Tekin Industries has had early involvement with this project completing design calculations due to the large amount of visual alerting devices required for this project.
With over 500 x VAD’s required in the building, Tekin has managed to reduce the amount of devices on the ceiling significantly by incorporating the smoke detector, the talking sounder, and the VAD into the same device. This has reduced the amount of cable, holes in ceiling, and vast amount of labour hours required which in turn will help the contractor with a more efficient project installation.
